Event Description
The purpose of this class is to share beginner practices for using and maintaining your sewing machine. We will cover various aspects of the machine, including stitches, tension, needles, thread, tools required for successful sewing, general maintenance, and best practices. Charlotte will also try to address any other questions that may arise during the class. In this class, you will be provided with an informational booklet, as well as sewing practice sheets. You will also sew a precut bookmark that you can take home and use or gift to someone.
Supplies Needed:
*Your sewing machine / or reserved machine from the Extension office
*Your machine's power cord/foot pedal/ & user manual
*Universal sewing machine needles (2- 3 ea)
*Thread bobbins for your machine (2- 3 ea)
*Extension cord
*Presser feet that came with your machine
*Clean, soft cleaning cloth
*2 Spools of general-purpose thread: one darker color and one lighter color. Please have a newer thread and nothing less quality than the Coats & Clark brand. We do not suggest buying thread at a dollar store.
*Tool kit that came with your machine (some of the items below may be included in that kit)
*Scissors
*Pins & pin cushion
*Seam ripper
*Measuring tape
*Ruler
*Marking pen
*Tweezers
*Universal needles
*Sewing machine dusting/cleaning brush
*Feel free to bring any other items that may have come with your machine that you may want to know more about
The McCreary County Extension Office does have some machines on hand to reserve for the class, but we do encourage you to bring in your personal machine for a better take-home experience. Please call to reserve 606-376-2524.
